All Faces Weekend

THE FACES ARE NOT IN THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME.

I repeat: THE FACES ARE NOT IN THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME.

That’s right. Go ahead, mine the list of 25 years worth of Hall of Fame inductees at that link up there and see for yourself. No. Faces. We were shocked and dismayed, having discovered this on All Faces Weekend. I mean…we just assumed, you know?

To cover our bases:

  • Rod Stewart was inducted as a solo artist in 1994.
  • Ronnie Wood has been in as a member of The Rolling Stones since 1989.
  • Jeff Beck is going in as a solo artist (Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood were a part of the first incarnation of The Jeff Beck Group) this year.

But, this, my friends is not nearly enough.

Nowhere does that list recognize the achievements of Ronnie Lane (Slim Chance, modestly successful solo career, collaborator with Pete Townshend), Ian McLagan (touring with The Rolling Stones, still touring today), and Kenney Jones (ok, I guess he’s sort of in there with The Who, having replaced Keith Moon).

But all that aside: THE FACES AS A GROUP ARE NOT IN THE HALL OF FAME.

Which is made all the more outrageous considering that, oh, Aerosmith is. Paul Simon is. Twice. Madonna is. The Eagles are.

Now, the fact that Simon and Garfunkel got the nod six years before David Bowie and The Velvets pretty much queers the organization’s credibility no matter what, but we ask you: Which terrible acts will make it into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame (And Museum And Gift Shop) before Faces? Barry Manilow? Nickelback? (Nickelback rocks!) Rick Astley?
